How Singapore Marina Bay has changed from 2005 to 2017

In December 2005, I went up to Benjamin Sheares bridge to photograph the Singapore skyline with the Marina Bay in the foreground and the Shenton Way and Raffles Place business districts in the background. Then, there was no development yet between where I stood  and the sky-scraping buildings in the background. Only water and part of the reclaimed land on the left. I shot the same skyline from the grass field on the left and compared it to what it is now. See my older post here.

Yesterday, I went back to the same location and set up my tripod at roughly the same spot as in 2005. What a different view now! Look at what in the foreground now. There are new highway, the Helix Bridge, the ArtScience Museum, The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands (you can see part of it on the left side of the image). And in the background, there are new modern skyscrapers used for offices and apartments. Most of these new buildings and structures were completed a few years ago, by the way. Some of them now block the buildings seen in the 2005 photograph.

There is of course the Marina Bay Sands Hotel that sits between these and the southern part of the Marina Bay.

Now, those are on one side of the Benjamin Sheares bridge. On the other side, facing the sea, there are Singapore Flyer, Gardens by the Bay and Marina Barrage that were also completed before 2017 and … there are still other developments going on in the area.

And lastly, here is the view of Singapore skyline seen from the Bay East Gardens taken during the blue hour few days ago.

The Marina Bay area is still growing. Let’s see how different it will be few years from now.
